What type of art do you facilitate?

Intuitive Painting and Expressive Arts

Do I need art experience to attend the workshops?

No, you certainly don’t. The process I use in my teaching lets the participant create without inhibition or critique. This is the prize is in the process not the product. Sometimes we are lucky and it looks good though too!

Do I need to understand the intuitive painting process?

No, trust that I will guide you gently through and into the process. This is absolutely for beginners. It is also fantastic for any level artist who wants to recapture the joyful spark and spontaneity of creating. * freedom to be messy and permission to practise abundance and use as much art material and supply as they desire!

What does expressive art mean?

Traditionally this term was used as a therapeutic model of care for art therapists to engage clients in expressing the depth of blockages and possible trauma through expressing oneself creatively in any combination of dance, writing, visual arts, music, nature or other outlets. I do not call myself an art therapist. With the grounded mental health nursing background, my formal education and certification as an Intuitive Painting and Expressive Arts Facilitator I am confident in attending dearly to your psyche during our time together.

You refer to spirituality and circles - what does this mean?

When we gather we form a circle to begin and end our creative spiritual practise. This provides an opportunity to build community and connection which allows for ease of sharing. I do use a talking stick part of the time, as well as divinity cards, poetry and mediation. As we gather, each person’s life experience is valued. We refrain from providing advise or judgments as the kinship of others present are part of the process with the sharing of stories, which catalyzes wisdom, inner strength and increased confidence. The circle in itself is spiritual and the creative art process can also be spiritual.

What does embodiment movement mean?

It is an expression and feeling of 'being in the moment' and involves moving - this can occur during drumming, music and can be like dancing or swaying depending on the comfort level of participant.

Can Donna be my counsellor as well?

I work therapeutically with individuals during 1:1 creativity sessions and workshops. If a person shares they are needing acute mental health support, I will refer them to appropriate services as needed.
